Tom Kidd

By 1982, Tom Kidd had transitioned from starving artist to thriving illustrator and, in the many subsequent years, has worked consistently for companies and publishers worldwide, creating book covers, illustrated volumes of classic literature, concept art for movies, and paintings for this calendar.

His art has won him a World Fantasy Award, eight Chesley Awards, and many other accolades.

Tom has authored four books: The Tom Kidd Sketchbook, Kiddography: The Art & Life of Tom Kidd, OtherWorlds, and Fantastic Dragons and How to Draw Them.

Tom is the official artist for the “1632” series of alternate history books by Eric Flint and others published by Baen Books, for which he has done over 40 covers.

For Subterranean Press, he illustrated Songs of Dying Earth: Stories in Honor of Jack Vance, as well as a deluxe edition of Vance’s Dying Earth and the Book of Babel series by Josiah Bancroft.

His work for Centipede Press includes Swords and Deviltry by Fritz Leiber (part of the Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser series), the first book of the Kane series Dark Crusade by Karl Edward Wagner, and a deluxe illustrated edition of Elric: Fortress of the Pearl by Michael Moorcock.

He recently illustrated The Last Unicorn for Suntup Editions and Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas by Jules Verne for Conversation Tree Press.

His favorite and most time-consuming obsession is an unpublished illustrated book called Gnemo: Airships, Adventure, Exploration. Tom’s story, The Sketcher, is his first published work of fiction and appears in the book Overruled.
