Godzilla Minus Zero storms into theaters this fall, serving as the sequel to the Oscar-winning Godzilla Minus One.
Two years have passed and the story continues with the survivors that experienced the last attack from The King of Kaijus. In the last scene of the trailer, you see that Godzilla has made his way to the Big Apple from Japan, hovering over the Statue of Liberty!
According to Variety, Godzilla Minus One made $116 million worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing Japanese Godzilla film in the franchise’s 70-year history. With the amazing success of the previous film, it only makes sense for Godzilla to return to theaters to bring about more destruction and devastation
If you are unfamiliar with Godzilla Minus One (available on Netflix), per the Hollywood Reporter, Director Takashi Yamazaki, states, “In this new film (Godzilla Minus Zero), an even deeper despair will descend upon Japan and the Shikishima family. When [their] faced with an overwhelming and inescapable force, how do people fight back?”
Don’t confuse this Godzilla with the one from the Legendary and Warner Bros. Pictures’ Monsterverse franchise. They plan to release Godzilla X Kong: Supernova in March 2027. This will be their sixth film and the sequel to 2024’s team-up Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire, following up on the hit AppleTV show Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (Season 2 now streaming). In Yamazaki’s Godzilla universe, he’s the kaiju that terrorizes humans instead of protecting them, either way we all still love the big guy.
