The perfect planet for the perfect organism.
The Alien franchise continues its impressive recent run with the first ever live-action television series, Alien: Earth. The upcoming FX series released its first teaser last week. Very little was revealed in this teaser, but the 15 second spot set the tone for the upcoming series with an ominous slow zoom out of planet earth, revealing it to be a reflection on the head of the iconic Xenomorph. A jarring sequence of cuts and the recognizably creepy alien sound effects lead into the title card, showcasing the horror tone that this series will have.
The series is created by Noah Hawley, best known for creating the television series Fargo and Marvel’s Legion. It will star Sydney Chandler (Don’t Worry Darling), Alex Lawther (Andor), Timothy Olyphant (Justified, The Mandalorian). Read the full synopsis below:
“When a mysterious space vessel crash-lands on Earth, a young woman (Sydney Chandler) and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers make a fateful discovery that puts them face-to-face with the planet’s greatest threat in FX’s highly anticipated TV series Alien: Earth from creator Noah Hawley.”
The series is said to be set “three decades” before the original Alien film, which would place it roughly around the same time as the events of the 2012 film, Prometheus. It’s unclear how much this series will tie into the larger Alien franchise, but if the recent Alien: Romulus is anything to go by, it will likely serve to expand the mythos surrounding the origins of the Xenomorphs and their connection to the villainous Weyland-Yutani corporation.
FX’s Alien: Earth is coming to Hulu in 2025. For now we recommend stocking up on Alien titles for all of the new fans from Romulus and this upcoming series.
