Enter a brave new world.
10 years after being introduced to MCU fans in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and three years after taking up the shield in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson finally gets his first solo film in Captain America: Brave New World. The first official teaser trailer dropped today and is currently the #1 trending video on YouTube.
Captain America: Brave New World seems like it will live up to the title, ushering in a new era for both the titular character and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The teaser opens on a conversation between Sam Wilson and now-president Thaddeus Ross (previously played by the late William Hurt and now recast as Harrison Ford). This scene appears to set-up what will be one of the main conflicts of this story: whether or not Captain America should operate as an official military position. Evoking the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Civil War, the teaser continues to build up tension around who can and cannot be trusted in the government. Several new and returning players in this conflict are teased as potential antagonists alongside Ross, including Isaiah Bradley (Carl Lumbly), Samuel Sterns AKA The Leader (Tim Blake Nelson), and Giancarlo Esposito as a thus far unconfirmed character.
The biggest reveal of the teaser comes in the final seconds, as we see a single shot of Red Hulk grabbing and then smashing Captain America’s shield into the ground. Comic fans will know the identity of Red Hulk, but so far it seems Marvel is letting movie fans wait to find out. Liv Tyler’s Betty Ross is also confirmed to return alongside Tim Blake Nelson’s Leader — both making their first MCU appearance since 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. Danny Ramirez is also back as Joaquin Torres, who was first introduced as a sidekick to Sam Wilson in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and will now taking up the Falcon name.
Captain America: Brave New World releases on February 14, 2025. Fans that are excited for this all-star cast of actors and Marvel characters should check out these comic titles ahead of the film’s release!
