Born in 1970, Hiroaki Samura became one of the first Japnaese artists to become widely popular among American comics readers when his Blade of the Immortalbegan publication in English in 1997. Uniquely for a manga artist, Samura enjoyed a partial education in classical art before dropping out of college to start drawing Blade.
