In this thrilling sequel to The Gryphon King, old rivalries and new threats pull Bataar and Nohra into a swirling cauldron of gods, monsters and djinn.

Sweeping Southwest Asian-inspired epic fantasy starring morally gray characters and lady knights, perfect for fans of Godkiller and Shannon Chakraborty.

Bataar Rhah, the gryphon king, has conquered the kingdom of Dumakra. Victorious, he turns his attention on Aglea in the north, where pagan berserkers rule over inhospitable, monster- infested marshes. Prince Nassar and his entourage have also fled to Aglea to rally his supporters against Bataar—spreading a ghoulish plague wherever they go.

Princess Nohra is soon to be married to Bataar. Nohra has not forgiven the rhah’s sins against her country or her family, but her thirst for vengeance wars with her feelings for Bataar’s wife, Qaira. Now, as Bataar forces her to participate in the conquest of her mother’s country, wielding her best friend Darya’s terrifying demonic powers as a weapon, Nohra’s conflicted loyalties threaten to tear her apart.

Nobody knows what Darya is capable of. Bataar’s strange supernatural gifts are growing more powerful by the day—and beginning to slip from his control. Only one thing is certain: everywhere, the eyes of monsters, gods, and djinn are watching. One wrong move could tip everything into chaos.
Sara Omer is a Pushcart Prize-nominated short story writer. She’s been a technical editor for medical and engineering publications and is now pursuing teaching. You can find her (sometimes unsettling) poetry and prose in places like The Dark, PodCastle, Small Wonders, and Strange Horizons. The Gryphon King is loosely inspired by history and culture shared by her Turkic and Kurdish family.

PRAISE FOR THE HARPY KNIGHT

"Epic, vicious, and unforgettable. Omer has created a masterpiece of a sequel that pulls no punches, from horrifyingly mythical beasts that will keep me up at night, to heart-splintering yearning that left me screaming at my wall." S. A. Maclean, Sunday Times bestselling author of The Phoenix Keeper

“A war-torn tale of mythical and mystical beasts and beings, reluctant allies, loyalty and reclamation, godhood, divinity, and complex politics on a backdrop of bleak, merciless violence where characters must battle not only against others but also themselves. Breathtaking, wide-sweeping, and victorious in its execution.” Ai Jiang, author of A Palace Near the Wind

PRAISE FOR THE CHAOS CONSTELLATION TRILOGY

"A twisty feast of politics and fantastical beasts—I cannot wait to read more of Omer's work." Shannon Chakraborty, New York Times-bestselling author of The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi

"A sweeping, magnificent epic of elaborate worldbuilding and intricate court politics. Omer skillfully explores the complexities of conquest and the flawed characters at its helm. One of the best fantasies I’ve read in years!" Hadeer Elsbai, author of The Daughters of Izdihar

"Starts with a bang and never lets off the gas. Deeply flawed yet lovable characters populate a world filled with twisty politics and fearsome beasts in equal measure. In this absolute firecracker of a debut, Omer balances unflinchingly grimdark elements with a deeply human softness rarely seen in this side of fantasy. Fans of A Song of Ice and Fire and The Poppy War should run, not walk, to the bookstores for this one." MJ Kuhn, author of Among Thieves

"Dripping with blood and glitteringly deadly court politics, The Gryphon King dazzles with characters as likely to bite the hand that feeds them as a man-eating pegasus. Omer's work is both sweeping and wonderfully intimate." Gabriella Buba, author of Saints of Storm and Sorrow and Daughters of Flood and Fury

“Alive with politicking families, fantastic beasts, and a deftly crafted storyline, The Gryphon King offers up a delicious cocktail of wonder and story sure to please every fantasy lover. Omer is a roaring new talent with boundless imagination, whose characters will stay with you long beyond the pages of this book! You want this book and you want it now.” Tobi Ogundiran, British Fantasy Award-winning author of Guardian of the Gods duology

"Omer has built a world of incredible scope. Its lore runs deep, its secrets dark, its politics intricate. It’s filled with characters who are larger than life in both deeds and flaws, and I’d follow them to the worst of places. This is the best kind of epic fantasy.” Jesse Aragon, author of The Demon Star

"A majestic melting pot of monsters, Machiavellian moves, moral murkiness, and mouthwatering meals that is a fantastic advert for the power of immersive epic fantasy. A showstopping debut." Grimdark Magazine

"Omer's enthralling debut fantasy starts with a bang and never slows... Epic battles and juicy political machinations keep the pages turning, and Omer’s Southwest Asian–inflected worldbuilding fascinates. Readers will be eager for more." Publishers Weekly
