While we say goodbye to the Ultimate Universe, its legacy is REBORN. Literally.
Marvel is not one to leave readers hanging, and for that we are thankful. Following the last issue of ULTIMATE ENDGAME, comes REBORN: ULTIMATE IMPACT – a fresh limited series about universes colliding, the power of creation, and the price of protection. Written by Chris Condon (Ultimate Wolverine) and illustrated by Stefano Caselli (Ultimate Black Panther), this five-issue run spins directly out of the 2025 hit Ultimate Spider-Man Incursion, where Miles Morales comes into possession of the mysterious Origin Boxes – artifacts once weaponized by the Maker to strip heroes of their destinies and rewrite reality itself.
Marvel continues to excel in rewarding long-term fans while simultaneously lowering the barrier of entry for new readers. In Miles Morales: Spider-Man #42, Ziglar offered a teaser story that quietly revealed the race of the Origin Boxes had already begun. What felt like a footnote at the time now becomes the central engine of REBORN.
The Origin Boxes function as a meta-device for what Marvel itself is attempting: tapping into a shared past that feels fixed (even closed) while using that same material to imagine something radically new. Under the Maker, the Boxes were tools of negation. In Miles’ hands, however, the Boxes take on an entirely new meaning. They are proof that the same power used to destroy can also be used for reinvention. Here in lies the creative philosophy propelling this new storyline: stories can be preserved, or they can be reactivated as living and evolving.
REBORN ultimately suggests that endings are never neutral. They can either close doors for good or become raw material for new beginnings. And in choosing transformation over erasure, Marvel reminds us of the immense power found in reinventing the stories we tell ourselves and to others.
