Patrick Horvath is returning to his twice-Eisner-nominated series, Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees, with the upcoming sequel, Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees: Rite of Spring. It will be released under IDW’s new imprint, IDW Dark. The Hollywood Reporter published an exclusive first look at the upcoming series.
The original series was a surprise hit for IDW, becoming one of the most successful original horror comics of the last few years.
“Having that nostalgic aesthetic of children’s books collide with a very dark story felt like something I probably shouldn’t do, but that just made it even more appealing to me, and apparently to a lot of other people as well,” Horvath told The Hollywood Reporter via email regarding the book’s success.
IDW editor Jake Williams calls the first Beneath the Trees “the sort of shot in the arm that the industry prays for. A reminder of how good the medium can be.”
The first issue will pay tribute to American Psycho (with a cover by Stray Dogs co-creator Tony Fleecs), the second one to Natural Born Killers, with more on the way. The six-issue return of the Eisner-nominated cozy horror smash hit goes on sale July 9th, 2025. Comics retailers, be sure to order Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees: Rite of Spring #1 when it goes on FOC June 6th.
