“Life happens here.” Sony released the trailer last week for HERE, the 2024 adaptation of the Richard McGuire graphic novel of the same name. The film is directed by Robert Zemeckis, the Oscar-winning director of Forrest Gump, Back to the Future, and Castaway, and stars Oscar-winner Tom Hanks and Emmy-nominee Robin Wright. The original graphic novel was a notable accomplishment in comic art, portraying the location of a single room throughout history, drawn from the same perspective. The film promises to follow suit, utilizing a single, fixed camera angle throughout the entire runtime.
Zemeckis is known for advancing filmmaking and visual effects technology in his movies, and HERE will be no different. The trailer features a montage through time, starting with dinosaurs walking the land, to their mass extinction via meteor, and eventually leading to the construction of the home that the lead characters’ family story is centered around. Through makeup and visual effects, Hanks and Wright start the film as teenagers and end the film in their 80s.
The trailer has already been viewed over 2 million times and the film is scheduled for a November 15th release. Perfectly positioned to be a contender in this year’s Oscar race. 2024 is the 10th anniversary of HERE, the graphic novel, published by Pantheon in December 2014.
