MCU at SDCC: New Ghost Rider, Black Panther III, and the Cast of Avengers: Doomsday!

Another SDCC is in the books. What would Hall H be if Marvel Studios didn’t show up to make a few announcements? Here’s a wrap up of the notable news and notes from the MCU panel at SDCC. Buckle up!

The lights went out and when they came up…Ryan Gosling was standing on stage. That’s right, he’s just “Ghost Rider”. Gosling spoke of his longtime ambition for this opportunity, “As you know, this is a character I’ve wanted to play for a very long time.” First Marvel revealed their star and then the director: Shawn Levy, who directed the billion dollar plus box office hit Deadpool & Wolverine. Ghost Rider starring Ryan Gosling will hit theaters in 2028.

Next up, director Ryan Coogler stepped on stage to announce Black Panther III. Coogler directed both prior installments. While we have the tried and true creative force behind the scenes, Coogler shared that a new Black Panther has been cast. The character will be the adult son of T’Challa, inheriting the role from the late great Chadwick Boseman. Who will wear the crown and vibrannium? Actor David Johnson, most known for roles in Alien: Romulus and The Long Walk, made his way out. Coogler embraced the actor, welcoming him to the MCU. Black Panther III will release December 15, 2028.

Before Ghost Rider and Black Panther III though, fans will experience doomsday – Avengers: Doomsday to be precise! Directors the Russo Brothers and members of the cast took the stage to hype the event film. Then, they were joined by twenty additional actors including legacy cast of the original Fox X-Men films who’ll be providing extra star power. After Dr. Doom himself, Robert Downey Jr., came out and gave a tease of his Latverian accent, the party was crashed by the Merc With A Mouth. Ryan Reynolds, in a gray Deadpool outfit ala his Uncanny X-Force era, had some questions for the cast.

And there you have it! New films, exciting casting, and a cavalcade of movie stars heralded Marvel’s return to Hall H.
