Movie Adaptation of Incidents Around the House (Other Mommy) Threatens to Haunt Audiences Everywhere

By Angelique Colon | July 27 2026 | Media Tie-In

If you watched The Odyssey during opening weekend, you probably were horrified by the Other Mommy trailer that graced us with its unsettling presence. Besides the initial shock of the trailer, what was interesting is that the trailer wasn’t expected.

The only way to catch the trailer was by seeing Christopher Nolan’s new adaptation of The Odyssey in theaters. The trailer then became available to all on July 21st. The initial shock people experienced in theaters is what I believe we should expect from the movie itself.

Like many great movies, Other Mommy is based on the book, Incidents Around the House by Josh Malerman and published by Del Rey. You may already be familiar with Malerman from his book and movie adaptation of Bird Box (2018), starring Sandra Bullock.

Incidents Around the House is about a young girl named Bela haunted by a sinister entity she calls “Other Mommy.” The supernatural presence grows increasingly dangerous and threatens her family if Bela doesn’t say yes to what Other Mommy asks her every day, “Can I go inside your heart?”

Will her family be able to protect her? Will Bela give in to Other Mommy? You can either find out when Other Mommy hits theaters on October 9th and/or read the book.

Check out Josh Malerman’s books here. Want to add to your Summerween collection? Here are graphic novels that explore similar themes, check out our collection below featuring both familiar favorites and hidden gems you may not have discovered yet!
